We are pleased to announce that the Graduate Student Internship Program will be continuing for the Fall 2009 semester. At this time, we are offering non-paid, credit-based experience for prospective candidates. Should you have a continued interest, please be sure to work with your supporting school to ensure that they may accommodate a credit-based experience. Due to the State's current fiscal situation, paid opportunities with the New York State Education Department's Graduate Student Internship Program have been suspended for the Fall 2009 semester. Please be sure to continue to check back for additional information/updates as they become available for the Fall/Spring '09, '10 semesters.
Department Portrait
The NYS Education Department serves as the administrative arm of the Board of Regents and under the direction of the Commissioner, carries out legislative mandates and Regents policies. The Department plans, funds, monitors, and coordinates educational servcies from pre-kindergarten to graduate school for local school districts, non-public schools, colleges and universities, and other educational institutions. The Board of Regents and the Department also oversee 48 licensed professions, provide vocational and educational services to individuals with disabilities, guide local government records programs, and operate the State Archives, Library, and Museum.
Graduate Student Intern Program
The New York State Education Department has an ongoing commitment to ensuring that the workforce of the Department is reflective of the rich and vastly diverse cultural mosaic that is embodied in the people of the State of New York. As such, the Graduate Student Intern Program is intended to provide a diverse group of graduate students with work assignments that provide an opportunity to participate in educational leadership and learning situations in the areas of public policy and administration, as well as management and legal services. All internships are part-time when school is in session.
Qualifications
Candidates must be currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a Master's degree, Terminal degree, or J.D. degree program approved by the State Education Department. Candidates are expressly prohibited from pursing employment with both the State Education Department and SUNY system/Legislature/etc. (No dual-employment).

The Department's Graduate Student Internship Program has been continued for the Fall 2009 semester. Please continue to check back as more information is made available for potential Spring 2010 placement opportunities.
Deadline for Spring Program Application: December 1st
Deadline for Summer Program Application: April 1st
Deadline for Fall Program: August 1st
Due to the wealth of applicants for each program term, we will only consider those candidates that have submitted prior to the closing date. Late applicants will only be considered for the following session unless otherwise indicated.
