SALARY: $91,096*

The New York State Education Department’s Office of Operations and Management Services is seeking applicants for the position of Director, Education Business Management Services. This office is responsible for building operations and maintenance, records management, printing and shipping of statewide exams, health & safety, interior design & space planning, and mail services.

Under direction of the Deputy Commissioner, the Director, Education Business Management Services will provide direction and leadership for the various but functionally related units in the Office of Facilities and Business Services. Duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Supervising, directing and supporting all division managers in the performance of their duties.
  • Leading the 200+ staff.
  • Overseeing, planning and coordinating the Department's Capital Construction Program including both State Schools and the three Native American Schools.
  • Overseeing the statewide printing and distribution of all statewide exams.
  • Directing and providing technical assistance and guidance in the determination of office space allocation, layout and design for Department program areas statewide, including the management of all owned and leased office and storage space.
  • Ensuring that maintenance, custodial and security services are provided for all Department buildings and grounds.
  • Regularly reviewing and developing policies and procedures where the Unit has lead responsibility within SED.
  • Ensuring sound fiscal controls, balanced budgets, and effective and well-defined personnel practices for division managers and staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service as a Director, Education Business Management Services or Assistant Director, Education Business Management Services OR one year of permanent competitive service in a position allocated to M-3 or higher to be eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $114,961 based on annual performance advances.
