SALARY: $91,096 - $114,961
Salary commensurate upon experience
The New York State Education Department is seeking an experienced and dynamic educator with a demonstrated record of success in working with children with special needs. The Superintendent will provide on-site management for all 5-day resident programs, school programs, and operations at the school. The Superintendent is responsible for achieving and maintaining compliance with appropriate State and federal regulations and State Education Department policies, both fiscal and programmatic; assuming a leadership role in developing and implementing standards-based curriculum and assessment; and leading positive program changes to improve student achievement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a Certificate of Qualification as a School Administrator (CSA) or a Certificate of Qualification as a School District Administrator (SDA) AND have at least five years of experience as an educator.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates that have experience as an educational administrator and exhibit strong leadership and management skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative team, using supervisory and team building techniques to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of educational services at the School will be given preference. Knowledge of laws and regulations that govern the education of the students with disabilities and experience in leading the development and implementation of curriculum and assessment is preferred. Demonstrated experience in the education of students who are deaf or hearing impaired and have multiple disabilities, and ability to communicate through American sign language is desirable.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is in the exempt class and the incumbent will serve at the pleasure of the Commissioner of Education.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $114,961 through annual performance advances.
