Instructor (Substitute) – SG-NS (PEF)

LOCATION: Rome
SALARY: $10.00 - $10.71/hour
(depending on qualifications)

The New York State School for the Deaf is seeking to fill an Instructor (Substitute) position. Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Providing instruction to students in the absence of the instructor.
  • Following emergency plans provided by the instructor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher and a valid NYS teaching certificate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Expressive and receptive American Sign Language skills.
  • Prior successful teaching experience.
  • Experience working with children.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Fingerprinting through the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check through the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment.  This will be a temporary, hourly position.  Instructor substitutes are notified by phone when services are needed.  Every effort is made to give 24 hour prior notice.
