National Provider Identifier (NPI)
NPI is an identifier used in standard electronic health care transactions. The NPI will be the single provider identifier for school districts, counties and ยง4201 schools utilized for Federal Medicaid reimbursement, replacing any currently-used identifiers. NPI implementation is due to the the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.
