Candidates with qualifying experience may be eligible to start at a higher salary than an auditor trainee. Candidates with a CPA or two years of qualifying experience may be eligible for a senior auditor position.  Those exams are as follows:

Professional Accounting and Auditing Positions (Upstate) Exam 20-822

Professional Accounting and Auditing Positions (Downstate) Exam 20-824

Candidates without prior qualifying State employment experience are hired as Auditor Trainees (Grade 14). Upon the successful completion of a two-year traineeship, new auditors advance to a Senior Auditor (Grade 18) position (advance to Grade 16 after one year).

Effective April 1, 2005, the starting salary for an Auditor Trainee is $36,228 (Grade 14) and a Senior Auditor is $45,113.

We perform financial-related, performance, and compliance audits of school districts, BOCES, and other organizations that receive funding through the State Education Department.  Our audits have provided the opportunity for staff to obtain qualifying CPA, CIA, or CGFM experience.
