State Education Commissioner Mills Announces

Resignation of Ronald Ross as Roosevelt Schools Superintendent

State Education Commissioner Richard Mills announced today that he has accepted the resignation of Ronald Ross, superintendent of the Roosevelt Union Free School District, effective June 30, 2007.  Mr. Ross's term as superintendent began on July 1, 2004.

Commissioner Mills said, "The superintendency is a relay, not a marathon.  Each runner is expected to run his leg of the relay to the best of his ability and then pass the baton to the next runner.  Mr. Ross has done his best, and I thank him for his service to the children of Roosevelt."

In the course of his superintendency of Roosevelt, Mr. Ross has raised student achievement at the elementary level, established a Ninth Grade Academy and mentoring programs at the high school, increased safety and security overall,  and overseen the construction and renovation of several school buildings.

Commissioner Mills announced that he is proceeding immediately to search for a new superintendent.
