Excess Teacher Turnover Prevention Grants

Award Calculation Process

Teacher salary data for eligible programs is compared to the public school 50th percentile medians by county, as provided by the BEDS Unit.

An average is used of the latest three years of processed data, as reported on the CFR (SS20-24 for Special Act Schools). A three-year average is used to mitigate fluctuations in provider’s salaries from one year to the next.

Providers with salaries at or above the public school 50th percentile median in their county are eliminated for the current round of awards that are being calculated.

Providers with salaries below the public school median in their county are weighted based on how far below the median they fall.

The $2,000,000 fund available for each year is then allocated to the eligible schools based on the weightings. The goal is to give a greater portion of funding per teacher Full Time Equivalent (FTE) to the providers with salaries the furthest below the public school 50th percentile medians in their county.

Proposed grant awards of less than $1,000 are eliminated and redistributed to providers with awards of $1,000 or greater.
