Problems & Solutions Using the STAC GUI Screens

Below are some of the problems you may encounter when attempting to use the STAC GUI screens. We are identifying problems as they are reported to us and also doing our best to identify a solution. Please call us at the numbers at the bottom of this page if either the problem you're having is not identified or the solution posted is not working for you.

1) PROBLEM: Error 904 cannot connect to server.

SOLUTION #1. Your firewall may be blocking incoming (or outgoing) traffic to a secure site
and your networking staff needs to make some exceptions in the firewall. These exceptions
        may include the following:

         a. Open Port 2450. This is the secure port being used for this applet.
         b. Allow access to these two URLs:
                    http://efrt.nysed.gov/efrttest/
                    http://efrt.nysed.gov/efrt/
         c. Allow access to IP address 149.10.221.13

(Note: One site told us they had done all steps in solution 1 & 2 and still had the problem.  However,
when they opened up port 2034 on their ISA (Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration) server,
          the problem was resolved.

SOLUTION #2: You may have multiple versions of Java, and need to uninstall other
versions. To do this, follow these steps:

Removing current Java Plug In (if not version 1.4.2_05):

        1) Go to your control panel (Start, Settings, Control Panel).
        2) Double Click on "Add or Remove Programs"
        3) Highlight any row that starts with "Java 2 Runtime" or "Java 2 SDK", and click the
             [Remove] button.

Note: the version of Java you need will look like this:

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_05

         Do not remove this version.

Note: You need Administrative Rights to do this. You may need to contact your network
         administrator to have this done.

SOLUTION #3:  Another site reported following all steps in Solutions 1 and 2 without success.
However, when they allowed a range of open ports from 2000-3000, it worked.

2) PROBLEM: Error 906

SOLUTION: This message indicates that the STAC mainframe system is not available. This
error should only occur during non business hours. If you see this message during regular
business hours, please contact the STAC unit at 474-7116. Please use this same number if
you wish to arrange to have the system available during non-business hours - it is possible
that such a request can be accommodated.

3) PROBLEM: Error 925 OR the following error message occurs: The screen (name of the screen you are trying to access) could not be found on the Web Server or in the CLASSPATH. Please check with your Site Administrator that your system parameters are correct and that the latest version of the screen is available.

SOLUTION: This message indicates that the GUI Screen (Presentation Client screen)
you're attempting to access is out of sync with its mainframe screen counterpart. Contact
one of the names at the bottom of this page as this problem needs to be resolved at SED.

4) PROBLEM: Error 933

SOLUTION: This message occurs when you have attempted to add commas or other
special characters to a numeric enterable field. The field will accept the decimal character,
but using commas (or other special characters) as separators is not allowed. SED is currently
working with the vendor to resolve this problem.

5) PROBLEM: Socket Error – Cannot Connect to Server

SOLUTION: Make a rule in your firewall for socket 2034.

6) PROBLEM:  “Bad Magic Number” (IE:java.lang.ClassFormatError = “Bad Magic Number”)

SOLUTION #1:  You may have multiple versions of JAVA on your machine.
See Problem #1, Solution 2 to resolve.

SOLUTION #2:   For sites that use Web filtering tools like SmartFilter or Websense, you may need to             “unblock” the URL for internet access to the STAC system, IP address 149.10.221.13.

For any other problems, please call the STAC, Special Aids & Medicaid Unit at (518) 474-7116.
