Getting to the Education Department

Visit the NYS Office of General Services Web Site to find information
on visitor parking and a map of the visitor parking lots.

From any part of the state, all major roads lead to the Empire State Plaza in Albany. The Education Building (EB), Education Building Annex (EBA) or the Cultural Education Center (CEC) are a short walk from the Plaza.

Traveling north on the New York State Thruway (I-87), take Exit 23 to I-787, and get off at the Empire Plaza Exit.

From the Thruway eastbound, take Exit 24 to I-90 East. Follow I-90 East to I-787 South to the Empire Plaza Exit.

From the Thruway westbound, take Exit B1 to I-90 West to I-787 South to the Empire Plaza Exit.

If you are on the North way southbound (I-87 South) take the exit for I -90 East (Albany). Stay on I-90 East to I-787 South to the Empire Plaza exit.

After exiting I-787 from the North or South, the Empire Plaza Exit ramp will take you directly under the Empire Plaza. From any parking level under the Empire Plaza, take the elevator from these parking levels up to the main concourse.

To get to the Education Building (EB) or the Education Building Annex (EBA) walk north towards the Capitol building. Take the escalator up to the Capitol Building and continue out the North entrance of the Capitol. You will be standing on Washington Avenue. Across Washington Ave is the Education Building (The 36 Corinthian columns facing Washington Avenue form the longest colonnade in the United States). Enter the Education Building through the main entrance (up the granite steps to the colonnade) on Washington Avenue. Enter the Education Building Annex (EBA) by crossing Washington Avenue and walking north on Hawk Street to the Annex entrance on your left (huge cast aluminum seal of NY above the door).

The Cultural Education Center (CEC) is at the South end of the Empire Plaza. Once you are in the main concourse of the Empire State Plaza, walk south as if going to the State Museum. The State Museum, Library and other Education Department offices are housed in the Cultural Education Center (CEC).

Metered parking is available on the streets around the Education Building. Most of the spaces have a two or four hour limit. Some spots are covered by "pay and display" meter stations that accept credit cards and well as currency. Other spots are covered by traditional parking meters. Bring lots of quarters if you plan to use these spaces.
