Instructions for Downloading the Agency File
The STAC Agency file contains information on approximately 1400 agencies and 3500 programs per school year. The data is kept on two files - one which contains the provider data, which is constant across school years, and a second file which contains program data. Program data is specific to a school year. The program data file has information relevant to the 2000-01 through the current school years. Both ASCII comma versions (.ASC) and fixed length text versions (.TXT) of the data files are available. Two other files which are also available contain the file descriptions of the data files. These files can be accessed in three ways - zipped, unzipped or in an Access database. For those of you unfamiliar with ZIP files, the files can be downloaded individually. It will take a little more time, but you will get the same results. The Access database download will also take more time than the ZIP file download, but will save you the time of loading the information into a database. These files are refreshed twice a month.

In order to use the file you must have PKZip software which will allow
you to "unzip" the file into its components and read them.
Follow steps 1-3 below to create a file containing the special
education provider/program information. 1. Insert a formatted diskette
in the "A:\" drive of your PC (if you are going to transfer the
file to a diskette) or save the file to a specific directory on
your "C" drive.
Usually your browser will display a "Save As..." menu where you
can make the choice. 2. Download
the Agency file. 3. Run PKUNZIP against the file to unzip the six component
files.
NOTE: Some browsers display the following files on the screen, rather than presenting a 'file download' dialog box. If this is the case, select File from the menu bar, then Save As to save the file on your system.
